Rather than lionizing Brown as "the Architect of the Golden State," the film looks critically at Pat Brown's odyssey to build a "Super State," raising issues that transcend eras and geographic borders.
As the Vietnam War shifts the nation's consciousness, Brown is caught in the middle of the cataclysmic 1960s, with the Free Speech Movement in Berkeley, fiery race riots in Los Angeles, and the United Farm Workers Movement in the Central Valley. Brown's epic battle against capital punishment unleashes an international uproar. Finally, a telegenic Ronald Reagan steps onto the world stage promising to sweep all that away. Brown's tenure ends as a new "era of limits" begins.
Told from his granddaughter's perspective, Brown's struggle to overcome humble beginnings reveals a dynamic American Dream story - a compelling journey that unfolds through interviews, archival footage, home movies, and cinema verite as the filmmaker wrestles with the inherited optimism of her grandfather's legacy.

Ever since Kroger Babb first pitched a tent for a roadshow, exploitation filmmaking has been a male-dominated profession. Yes, there have been notable exceptions like Barbara Petersand Stephanie Rothmanbut B-Movies usually mean Roger and Russ, not Nora Ephron.
Hopefully, the times may be a changing. Tammi Sutton, acclaimed director of the Argentoesque "Sutures,” is about to embark on a new cinematic adventure – the outlaw biker ballad "Welcome to Graveland". In an empty desert landscape, one woman takes up the classic role of the avenger, taking us on a motorcycle-driven journey of murder and mayhem with submissive male companions and murderous thugs along for the ride.
Tammi's semi-nomadic wanderers live on the edge "where man's destiny is written in blood,” except the tables have been turned with males as the objects of desire and conquest. Despite its macho reputation, the film already has been embraced in the biker community. Justin Kell, owner of the Hollywood’s "Glory Sales and Services" is building the bikes for "Welcome to Graveland". Every motorcycle will be custom-built according to the personality of each character and the actor he plays. Tammi, who currently casting the film, has decided to use only actors who can ride for real such as Danny Trejo ("Planet Terror", "Grindhouse") who has signed on to the project.
A passionate collector of B-movies and westerns, Tammi wrote the script as an homage to Sam Peckinpah and Sergio Leone. She sees "Welcome to Graveland" as the first step towards her ultimate goal – nuanced spaghetti Western without its part-and-parcel misogyny. She also mused about the possibility of constructing visual narratives against the backdrop of the disappearing frontier: “Times of life are passing us by and all we have left are memories and fantasies. We are consumed with our own nostalgia and might evade the truth."
 Tammi's boyfriend, Tim Worman, singer for the famous neo-rockabilly band "The Polecats" will score the film. Both are professional art directors and will soon be hard at work creating the persuasive pseudo-world that is called Graveland. Get ready to rumble…
