Plot: The 3-D action-thriller Sanctum follows a team of underwater cave divers on a treacherous expedition to the largest, most beautiful and least accessible cave system on Earth. When a tropical storm forces them deep into the caverns, they must fight raging water, deadly terrain and creeping panic as they search for an unknown escape route to the sea. Master diver Frank McGuire has explored the South Pacific's Esa-ala Caves for months. But when his exit is cut off in a flash flood, Frank's team- including 17-year-old son Josh and financier Carl Hurley are forced to radically alter plans. With dwindling supplies, the crew must navigate an underwater labyrinth to make it out. Soon, they are confronted with the unavoidable question: Can they survive, or will they be trapped forever?

Plot:
A young girl, Sally (Bailee Madison), moves in with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes); her dad is renovating an old house he hopes to sell. Sally is very sad and feels lonely because she was abandoned by her mother. Although her father's girlfriend, Kim, tries to warm up to her, Sally ignores her. Later Sally finds a hidden basement with a sealed fireplace. Sally finds herself drawn to it as she can hear voices that beg her to open it so they can be her friends. Her dad stops her before she can get the door completely open, but small goblin-like creatures get the door open and start to torment Sally.
Sally gets blamed for most things like cutting up Kim's dress and destroying a teddy bear that Kim gave to her. Sally insists it was not her and the creatures are framing her for the acts but her dad doesn't believe her and is more concerned about finishing the house. Kim, however, does believe her and they start to grow closer. Kim does research on the house and discovered it was once owned by a man whose son went missing and the man disappeared too. She also learned that he believed in evil creatures that dated back to the Stone Age that were known to kidnap people (usually children) to replace their numbers by turning them into one of them. Kim is also shocked to see that many of his drawings matched what Sally has drawn. Realizing Sally is in danger, Kim tries to get Sally out of the house to a hotel, despite Alex's objections. Before they leave, the power goes out as it was cut by one of the little creatures.

The film stars Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, and Bailee Madison.It is being directed by first time director and del Toro protege Troy Nixey.
Filming began in July 2009 in Melbourne, Australia, at Docklands Studios Melbourne and went into post-production in September.Troy Nixey narrated the film at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con International.
This picture, which was developed with Miramax but in the wake of the division's closure will be released by Lionsgate, was rated R despite filmmaker ambitions to the contrary. "We originally thought we could shoot it as PG-13 without compromising the scares," Del Toro said. "And then the MPAA came back and gave us a badge of honor. They gave us an R for 'pervasive scariness.' We asked them if there's anything we could do, and they said, 'Why ruin a perfectly scary movie? '"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was rated R by the MPAA for violence and terror.
Nixey initially set the release for the January 21, 2011.The trailer was attached to The Last Exorcism, Devil and Let Me In.
Due to the sale of Miramax by Disney, the release has been put on hold indefinitely until the sale can be finalized.
